XG Technology, a Florida based wireless communications company and the developer of a portfolio of wireless communications technologies is marketing a suite of products which they claim will fill a void in the rural mobile broadband market. The company is using the same type of technology used by "white space," another experimental broadband technology, to provide mobile broadband service in rural areas.
While XG Technology tries to fill the mobile broadband gap in rural areas, two U.S. Senators are trying to make a law preventing the taxation of Internet services passed in 1998 permanent. Two Republican Senators introduced legislation which would indefinitely extend an existing law banning federal, state and local governments from taxing Internet access. The Internet Tax Freedom Act, originally enacted in 1998, will expire in November 2014.
