Polycom, a large manufacturer of video-conferencing products announced the acquisition of video content company Accordent.  As a continuing sign of the trend toward video content consuming increasingly large amounts of bandwidth, the acquisition also emphasizes the effect of the economy on policies regarding company meetings.  Companies are repeatedly making the choice to use videoconferencing in place of in-person meetings to conduct conferences and presentations.

According to Sudhakar Ramakrishna, Polycom Chief Development Officer, "We believe Accordent has the most elegant video content management solution on the market and by leveraging customer, channel, partner and product synergies with Polycom, this transaction positions Polycom at the forefront of end-to-end video and content management. We welcome Accordent's customers and employees to the Polycom team."

Polycom stated that Accordent had $9 million in revenue in 2010, compared with its own $1.2 billion.  Earnings will have a neutral effect this year, and will add a small amount of revenue to 2012 earnings.
